Once again, rain has delayed our electrofishing surveys but the Doon and Stinchar timed sites have been completed and we have one site on the Ayr and 4 on the Girvan left to do. All going well these will be completed on Monday and Gillian will then produce the tables that illustrate the results.

What I can say is that the results this year on both the Doon and Stinchar have been fantastic, on the whole. The amount of fish that we caught has been incredible and the whole survey process has taken longer than usual due to the high number of fish we have had to process.

Results on the Ayr have shown an improvement on previous years but still could be better. The Girvan so far has been exceptional with one site producing over 62 fry per minute!!!!! I can’t wait to see the completed results next week.

A new timed site for the River Ayr. Fry were recorded in better than expect numbers but nothing like what was on the other Ayrshire rivers.

There may be several reason why results are so good this season but until all results are in and we look at them in more detail, then I won’t speculate on this just yet.
