Once again the electrofishing has thrown up a nice trout. They are all nice, but some are nicer than others and this one was a cracker. At 38cm long, it wasn’t as big as the Glenmuir fish from last week and was leaner but it was a lovely looking fish all the same.

Another lovely trout from the Ayr system.

This burn is a bit of an enigma in that we never find salmon during electrofishing surveys. We hear reports that salmon used to run the burn 20+ years ago and that it was a well known place for poaching but we never find any juveniles upstream of the road at Ochiltree. Why wouldn’t salmon do well on the Burnock? I just don’t know as water quality is good and the trout are doing well so it would be reasonable to expect at least a few salmon to migrate here late in the season.
